Tools & Equipment Needed for Weldin

Most of the people think that welding is a very tough job to handle. But in reality, it is very easy. You will just have to get the right tools and you are good to go. From the perspective of a beginner it is quite important to know all sorts of tools there is before you want to buy anything. You have to know which are obligatory and ones that are not.
For a starter, this is a very important task as this might lead to the fact if you will be welding in the future or not. Some tools might give you some really hard time. Everything is really simple, you will get what you will be paying for. If you buy some really cheap item then you will get something which will give you very much trouble.
There might even be tools that you don’t even know that exist but might just be a necessity for you. So, it is better to go through almost all of the tools in the welding realm before you start buying stuff. Going through the tools some other welder has might not be helpful at times cause he or she might not be needing some things that you need.
Tools-&-Equipment-for-Welding
Here we will be discussing welding safety equipment and tools in brief, why you should buy each of them. So, tag along.
Table of Contents

Welding Safety Equipment

In this section of the article, we will be focusing on the things you will be needing to keep yourself safe during welding. Safety is always our number one priority. So, we have to make sure that we have this before we start welding. This stuff should obviously be on our welding safety equipment and tools list.

Welding Gloves

If you don’t want your finger to be burnt down to ashes them make sure you get the thick one cause that’s the ones you want. There’s absolutely no other choice without a pair of perfect welding glove. Sometimes the heat of the weld gets as much as 10 000 degrees so you can’t just think that you can just man up and withstand that much heat.

Auto Darkening Welding Helmet

The reason you should have the auto darkening one is that by using this you won’t have to put up the hood up and down again and again and you will end up missing the spot you want to weld. In this way, you will never have the perfect weld.

Welding Apron

Welding Apron is a must if safety is your number one priority for everybody. Leather welding aprons are better as this is fireproof and the thicker ones will help you to protect yourself from all those splatters and debris.

Welding Jacket

This thing mainly does the same thing as the welding apron but this one is better. It assures you the protection from all sorts of debris from all angles. You can put your trust on this one. The apron is usually longer and they can protect you up to the knee but that isn’t much of a necessity.

Hood

This is for those who do not have enough trust on their helmets. At times even after wearing a helmet you might end up getting some burns on your face or you might have some hot debris fall on your face which will create some really bad massacre you don’t want. It better to have one of these if you feel the need to have it.

Welding Beanie

Most people might not have this on their welding safety equipment and tools list but it is really a useful stuff. It really helps to protect your hair from all those minute debris that come flying off while you are welding. Like this one –

Welding Cape Sleeve

This one is just like the welding jacket but with only the upper portion. This is the portion which is really important part that you need to protect from all those flying arcs and debris fall on this part. At times the welding apron even does not do a pretty good job at protecting this portion.
So, it is better to get this along with the welding apron or just get a welding jacket.

Welding Sleeve

Welding sleeve works great to protect your arm. It stretches all the way from your hand to your biceps to protect your arm from that extreme heat. So, it better to get a pair of these if you don’t want to get tanned.

Safety Glasses

You definitely will end up getting the thing in your eye. The down to the doctors will definitely not be a fun one to remember. No matter the helmet you wear you will end up getting some debris in your eye. Which can cause you to go blind?

Welding Jacket

Welding jacket also protects welder from unwanted splatters, hot derbies. Leather welding jacket is always the gold. We talked other articles on welding jacket buying guide in details.

Respirator

Welders also use the respirators to filter the air they take on each breath. Also, respirator used by the carpenters and other professionals those who work in dust and gas.

Welding Tools

Well, after having enough safety you should finally start to weld and to do that you should have these welding tools on your welding safety equipment and tools list to make things a lot easier for you.

Welding Magnets

Welding magnets help to hold tight workpieces from different angles. You should get one of this since you will eventually run out of hands. These magnets will help you, big time to keep things in place. It will even enable you to create a 90-degree angle, which comes handy at times.

Welding Framing Jigs

It is in here in this list because of the level of its usefulness. It really helps you to create some squares but if you don’t get this it won’t be much of a problem. But when you go pro even the smallest of things counts.

Speed Square

Unlike the welding, framing jigs a speed square obviously on your welding tools and equipment list. This is a must-have for a beginner. When you will have to cut a piece of square metal by about 12 inches or so this one will definitely come in very handy. So, you should get this one for sure.

Sheet Metal Gauge

This is one of the most useful things for a beginner and also for a pro. Most welders have this chart type thing where it is mentioned what settings to use for different thickness of the metal. But it is next to impossible to figure out the thickness of the metal just by looking at it.
So, it better to have one of these lying around the workshop. Trust me, you will end up needing it sooner or later. an example of –

Metal File

This will help you out a lot to get rid of your unwanted extensions during from welding. You can get this done by your metal grinder but the details won’t be as good.

Welding Clamps

You will always run out of hands to hold your metals. So, this is definitely one of the handiest things for welding Make sure you get not only one or two of these things but 10 to 12 of these things. You will always be needing these things to hold your metals in place. Welding clamps helpto hold welding clamps tight and also to ground the work pices.

Metal Brush

Some welding process creates slag. So, you might just want to get one of these, in case you will end up using stick welder or a flux core welder sooner or later. These sorts of welding create a slag layer on top of the original weld. If you need to see the original weld, which you will. You have to get these.

MIG Pliers

MIG welding pliers one of the most useful equipment if you get into MIG welding sooner or later. So, this one should be on your welding tools and equipment list. This is a multi-purpose plier. It will help you to remove the nozzle from it circular by its circular clamp. It even has the feature to remove the contact tip. So, this is a must have welding tool for a MIG welder.

Soapstone

This is just a marker or chalk kind of thing. You can write on metals with this. The thing about this is that this can withstand the extreme heat of welding and that due to cutting torches. So, when you will be needing to cut a particular shape of the metal this will come in very handy.

Angle Grinder

You just have to have this. You can’t argue with that. You will have to cut off some portion of the metal to get the desired structure. And at times you will be needing to grind some portion to make things smooth. You can even set a wire brush on this thing to remove paint.
You will need two of these. One for grinding and the other for cutting.

C Clamps

It is obligatory that you clamp your projects to the table so that it is completely stationary and rigid before you start welding. Otherwise, your whole project will be warped and it will be a massacre and frustrating. You should have had clamped your project to the table, to begin with. So you should get a couple of these.

Portable Band Saw

I wouldn’t go as far as to claim that this is mandatory for a welder but when you will have to cut metals in perfect lengths this does the job quite fantastically. Some welders use them all the time. Having an angle grinder does the job but that requires some after work. Which in this is not required.

Chipping Hammer

Chipping hammer is a great tool for welding. Get one of these it is really cheap. It may be used to chip off some debris attached to the project. Again, you have to have it if you are doing MIG welding. Cause you will have to chip away those slags to reveal the welding.

Oxy-Acetylene Setup

This is a fabulous tool for welding. You can do just about anything with this setup. You can weld with it, you can cut stuff with this thing and then you can even bend things with this.

Welding Boots

Welding is a necessity when you will be doing overhead welding. It will be a wise decision to buy a pair of welding boots which has a metatarsal guard to protect from the splatters.
Besides some has a steel toe cap.

Welding Table

A plane surface is required for precise welding and a welding table is the only thing that can do that.

Welding Helmet Magnifying Lens

If you wear glasses then you might need this. When you are welding at 18 – 20 inches distance then it might be difficult to see what is going on in the spot and that problem will be solved by wearing this. This is especially required for TIG welding because due to the excessive heat of TIG welding your face will be at a distance from which it is difficult to observe.

Hand Amptrol

Welding machines usually come with foot amptrols to control the amperage for the welding but it m9ight be difficult to work with that at times. Hand amptrols enables the welder to control the amperage by hand.

Flexible TIG Torches

The neck of this type of torch is flexible. At the time you will find yourself in a tight situation where having a flexible head torch might be helpful.

Gas Lens for TIG Welding

In TIG welding the molten metal is protected by a shielding gas. This gas comes out of the nozzle. Adding a gas lens makes the gas flow in a straight path covering the required amount of area but using a standard nozzle creates a turbulence which is not required and wastes a lot of shielding gas.

Conclusion

It is always a good idea to make a list of welding safety equipment and tools list before you start buying any kinds of stuff by doing the proper research. This will save you a lot of time and a heck of a lot of money. Cause we are always on a short supply of that.
Especially the safety equipment is always our top priority because you never know how you might just get injured. So it is always a good idea to keep an eye out for this stuff.
You will eventually find out that you did not need all those stuff you bought, to begin with, it all if you just hit the store and buy everything the shopkeeper tells you to buy. So, it is always a good idea to know the things you need before you end up buying things a random or what people just tell you to buy.
Here you tried to solve all those hassles you would have to go through and research the hell out of welding equipment

جزاكم الله خير
